What Not to Miss on Your Next Trip to Venice

Would you like to experience Venice like a local? There are few places as unique as Venice and not many tourists know that there is more than a crowded piazza, St. Marks square, dark alleys and a gondola ride during the Venice holidays. In this article, our local experts collected best 5 insider tips for your next trip to Venice.

1. Visit Santa María Gloriosa dei Frari (San Polo, by walk or ferry n. 1 and 2)

It's the most beloved church by locals. Don’t be fooled by the plain exteriors! Inside you will find marble mausoleums, sculptures and woodworks, in addiction to the famous paintings such as Titian’s “Assumption of the Virgin”.

2. Browse around the Rialto’s fish market (San Polo, by walk or ferry n.1 and 2)

Do it at 7 am, ahead of everyone. It’s worth an early wake to see the array of fresh fish and seafood, beautifully arranged on stalls, which are conveniently located right by the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge.

3. Take a workshop at Forcolaio Matto (Cannaregio, by walk or ferry n.1)

There is always time for a gondola ride, but what about visiting an artisanal shop where you can learn how they are handmade built and decorated? It's a priceless experience, moreover to feel more close to the locals and their favourite transport.

4. Climb Scala Contarini del Bovolo (San Marco, by walk or ferry n. 1 and 2)

To see the city from another point of view, climb the Gothic external spiral staircase. It's a multi-arch masterpiece with 80 steps to the top.

5. Head to San Pietro di Castello island (Castello, by walk or ferry n.4 and 5)

A magical place at the end of Venice, outside the hyper-crowded, mainstreamed itineraries. Head there to enjoy the tranquility of the real Venice, but at a slower pace.

And an extra tip, stay in  Leonardo Royal Hotel Venice Mestre while in Venice to have an easy access to all of the sights discussed in this article.
